The greatest privilege we can have as human beings is to know the God who created us and who sustains us every moment of every day.
The problem is our sin hinders us from approaching and knowing our Holy God. I Timothy 6:16. We're all guilty of sin and unworthy to live in His presence. Romans 3:10-19, 23. The wages of sin is death. Romans 6:23
The Good News (The Gospel) is that Jesus, God's only begotten Son, bore the penalty of our sins in His own body on the cross that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. See and rejoice in II Corinthians 5:21.
To know Him is to receive and enjoy eternal life, starting this very moment. John 3:16, 36 To refuse Him is to continue on your way to eternal damnation. God, in His sovereignty, does not force Himself on anyone. You can receive Him or reject Him. If God is drawing you to Himself, receive Him now. Jesus warned in John 6:44 that "No man can come unto Me, except the Father draw Him."
We learn to know God as we become acquainted with the Lord Jesus Christ who is God in human flesh. If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus. John 1:18 John 14:9.
The devil's lie is that "all roads lead to Heaven." Jesus said I am the way, the Truth and the Life; no man comes to the Father, but by Me. John 14:6 Jesus said that the way to Heaven is narrow and few find it and that the way to hell is broad and many are on that road. Matthew 7:13-14 On which road are you?
We learn to know Jesus, not through some mystical feeling; but as we read the Bible, God's inspired, infallible Word to us. The Apostle Peter, who had an exciting experience seeing the glorified Christ on the Mount of Transfiguration, writes in II Peter 1:16-21 that the inspired Scripture is a more solid foundation for our faith in Christ than any experience.
So, you see, we come to know God; not by seeking a warm fuzzy feeling, not by turning over a new leaf and trying to live pleasing to Him, not by being baptized or seeking a religious experience, not by seeking harmony with nature, not by joining Alameda Bible Church or any other church. Instead, we come to know God and enjoy fellowship with Him, as we read our Bibles and discover who Jesus is and what He did for us. If that is your serious desire, I encourage you to read through the Gospel of John and ask God to reveal the truth of Christ to you.
